Treatment of Acid Reflux

Like most health disorders, Acid Reflux has treatments and remedies that assist sufferers of the ailness to recover and live Acid reflux free lives. The treatment of Acid reflux varies and there are a number of types of treatment available today.

Treatment of Acid Reflux may include the following methods.

Positional Therapy

This method involves the corrective positioning of the body such as when sleeping to prevent or minimize the backflow of gastric fluids which leads to heartburns which are symptoms of Acid reflux.
These include such techniques as inclined positions when sleeping or resting and elevation of the beds or sleeping and equipment to give an ideal position for sufferer.

Drug Treatment

In the western world the use of drugs to treat any ailments such as Acid reflux is the most common form of treatment. There are various drugs intended to treat a specific symptom and these various drugs are commonly used in combination with other to treat specific cases.
The drugs such as Antacids, Proton pump inhibitors, and Prokinetics each have a separate effect and in some cases are required to be used together.

Surgical Treatment

There is a standard surgical procdure that is intended to treat Acid Reflux, and in some cases the surgical method is preffered over the drug treaments, the treatment commonly done to treat Acid reflux is Nissen fundoplication. The upper part of the stomach is wrapped around the Lower Esophageal Sphincter to strengthen the sphincter and prevent acid reflux and on occasions to repair a hiatal hernia.

Alternative Treatments

There are various alternatives of conventional treatment that are used in order to treat Acid reflux such as the use of endoscopic devices to treat the condition in its chronic form. These systems like Endocinch, which puts stiches in the Lower Esophageal Sphincter to create little pleast that are meant to strengthen the mucles.

Dietary Treatment

This is the method by which the sufferers diet is modified or changed so that food that is commonly the associated with Acid Reflux is avoided and instead the diet is replaced with food that does not promote any gastroesophageal conditions.
